“Who is there to take up my duties?” asked the setting sun. The world remained dark and silent. With joined palms said the earthen lamp, “I will do what I can, my master!” writes Tagore.
Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru set out on its journey of 40 weeks’ cleanliness drive with a similar attitude, to do what it can after the request from Govt. of India to join hands in the Swacchata Abhiyan. We had our share of bouquets & brickbats as all such noble endeavors are bound to meet with. But we also had the unstinted support and cooperation of hundreds of our volunteers who were eager to join us and ‘be the change they wanted to see’. Chilly mornings or the blazing sun never for a moment deterred their determination to contribute their mite in this Abhiyan. But for their sacrifice our Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan could not have come this far.
Our main focus, even from the beginning, was not so much to sweep the city of Mangaluru clean but to create an awareness among the public about cleanliness. So, in spite of several apprehensions and discouragement from various quarters, the Ashrama took to this novel initiative and involved more and more students and youths on whom the future of nation rests. As we enter the 40th week of Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan which concludes the first phase of this drive, we would like to thank all our volunteers on this occasion.
Hence we invite one and all to come and join us in the Thanks Giving Ceremony in our Ashrama on the 14th February 2016. The details are given below:
Ramakrishna Mission had initiated 40 weeks’ Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan on special request from Govt. of India on 1st February 2015. Since then under the aegis of Ashram, thousands of volunteers, students, youths and general public have undertaken this cleanliness drive for the last 34 weeks in different parts of the city. This Abhiyan has won the accolades of one and all given its nature.
As we enter the 35th consecutive week on 17th January 2016, we invite one and all to join us at 7.30 am at Marnamikatta Circle for the Swacchata Abhiyan. “Swacch Mangaluru for Swacch Bharath” is a novel initiative of Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru undertaken on special request from Government of India This initiative was flagged off on the 1st February 2015 in a special programme at Ramakrishna Math, Mangalore. In a nutshell its about 4000 youths dedicating their precious time on 40 weekends in 40 different wards of the Mangaluru city in cleaning and also in creating an awareness about cleanliness.
Cleaning the nation is not a day’s job. Neither can this be achieved by just few legislations by Govt. agencies. It demands participation from each and every responsible citizen. Ramakrishna Mission has always stood in the forefront in the service of the society. We seize this opportunity to serve the nation through leading from the front by taking up this cleanliness drive.
Our motive is not to sweep Mangalore clean, but to create an awareness among the people, particularly in the younger generation about its importance and their role in keeping their surroundings cleaner and greener.
On this occasion we would also like to thank Nitte Group of Institutions and MRPL for their continued support, cooperation and patronage for this initiative.
In the 1st phase, about 20 drives were successfully organized in different parts of Mangalore thanks to the dedicated efforts & support of the volunteers, devotees and well-wishers. Now that we enter the 2nd phase of the Abhiyan we would appreciate if more & more volunteers join our brigade to help us realize our tryst with destiny. We hope interested public will utilize this unique opportunity to pay back to society by contributing their mite in the national regeneration.
