21st Week’s Swacchata Abhiyan by Ramakrishna Mission on 25th March

Inauguration of renovated Arise Awake Park: On successful completion of 20 weeks of cleanliness drive in the 4th phase, special programme was organized at Karangalpady on 25h March 2018. Renovated “Arise Awake Park” was inaugurated by Sri J R Lobo, MLA, Mangaluru South in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji, Captain Ganesh Karnik, Prakash Salian, MCC Councilor, Prashanth Baliga of MRPL, Umanath Kotekar & others.

Speaking on the occasion, Sri J R Lobo said, “This park is a proof of the fact that clean mind is the first step towards clean environment. Ramakrishna Mission Swacchata Abhiyan has been successfully instilling in the minds of public awareness about cleanliness. I congratulate each and every one who has participated in this Abhiyan.

In his benedictory Address Swami Jitakamanandaji said, “We have a responsibility of keeping our city clean and garbage free. Hence each of us has to take a vow that we don’t litter everywhere. In addition, if we can transform garbage dumping yards & neglected spots in to parks like this, it will result in a cleaner & beautiful city.

Mayor of MCC Sri Bhaskar Moily lauded the efforts of Ramakrishna Mission in creating awareness on cleanliness among the public and assured greater cooperation and support for the abhiyan from MCC in the days ahead. Captain Ganesh Karnik delivered keynote address. Swami Ekagamyanandaji welcomed the gathering and Sri Prakash Salian thanked the gathering. Sri Raghuraj Kadri anchored the programme.

Cleanliness Drive: After the inauguration of the park, 21st week’s Shramadan was flagged off by Sri Bhaskar Moily, Mayor of MCC and Sri Rajaneesh Kapikad, Former deputy Mayor of MCC. Afterwards monks, and other dignitaries took up the brooms and cleaned the road sides. Vittaldas Prabhu, MUkesh Alva, Souraj Mangalore and Mohammad Shameem guided the volunteers in cleaning the four roads. Volunteers also cleaned the road leading from the park towards Subramanya Sadana and cleaned the adjoining compound walls. Students of Nitte Physiotherapy college under Dr Dhanesh Kumar cleaned the Jail road in Karnagalpady area. Residents of Pawan Apartments cleaned the premises & surroundings of Animal Husbandry office. Students of St. Aloysius college went from door to door distributing the handbills on awareness among the localites.

Clearance of construction debris: Heaps of construction debris lying by the side of the Animal husbandry office for the past few days was cleared by Sadeep Kodikal, Jagan Kodikal, Shivu Puttur and others. Japanese Masahiro & Masako Akoyi actively participated in the Abhiyan. Prabhakar Shetty, Ramesh Rao, Deviprasad Kadri, Shubhoday Alva, Ashok Subbaiah, Suresh Shetty, President of HMS, Srikanth Rao & more than 400 volunteers actively participated in the drive. Dilraj Alva coordinated the drive.

All the volunteers were served tiffin after the drive.  MRPL is sponsoring the drive.

20th week’s Swacchata Drive by Ramakrishna Mission on 18th March

20th week’s drive of Ramakrishna Mission Swacchata Abhiyan was organized at Bejai Kapikad area on 18th March. The drive was flagged off at 7.30 am in front of Indian Oil Petrol Pump at Kapikad Bejai by Dr Dhanesh Kumar K U, Principal, Nitte College of Physiotherapy and World renowned magician Sri Kudroli Ganesh in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji. Speaking on the occasion Dr Dhanesh Kumar said, “Swacchata Abhiyan should not be for show off but should spring out of genuine concern. Efforts of Ramakrishna Mission in this regard are laudable and I urge each and every responsible citizen to join them.” Balakrishna Bhat, Imtiyaj Shekh, Shantappa Babu, Preetham Mugila & others were present.

Cleanliness Drive: About 200 volunteers were divided into 6 groups. Roads leading from Kapikad petrol bunk were divided among the volunteers for cleaning. Both sides of the road from Kapikad to Bejai Bus stand were cleaned by 2 groups under Captain Ganesh Karnik. Two more team of volunteers took up cleanliness work in Anegundi road under Sri Vittaldas Prabhu & Umar Farooq K. Students of Nitte Physiotherapy college cleaned the road and adjoining drains in Kapikad by removing the plastic papers and sweeping the area. Volunteers under P N Bhat, Mehboob, Uday K P cleaned an area near petrol bunk which was littered with plastic waste. They also cleared a footpath which was covered with mud by using JCB thus helping pedestrians.

Repainting of 6 direction boards: With the intention of benefitting the local public 6 direction boards depicting the names of the roads which were faded and were not serving purpose were cleaned and repainted. Direction boards in Netaji Road in Bejai kapikad, Kirodian Lane, 1st Cross, 2nd Cross & 6th cross were repainted.

Removal of Flex banners & posters: Illegal flex hoardings and banners have not only ruined the beauty of the city but are also leading to poster wars. Hence the volunteers of Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan under Souraj Mangalore, Sudhir Vamanjoor, Prakash Garodi, Ganesh Prasad Shetty, Dilraj Alva & other youths removed several flex banners & hoardings in Jyothi, Kankanadi, PVS, Kodialbail & Hampankatta areas.

Distribution of awareness Literature: Students of St. Aloysius College under the guidance of lecturers, Prajna Jain & Metlida Veronika Pais visited houses and shops door to door distributing awareness handbills and urging them to keep their areas clean. Prashanth Raj of Bhumika Water Suppliers volunteered to clean the roads swept by washing with water and watered the plants planted in the road dividers.

Wall Painting at Karnagalpady Market: Few weeks before, Karnagalpady Market area was littered with garbage and plastic waste. After our volunteers cleaned the area and urged the localites to cooperate in maintaining the area clean, it had stopped. This week the surrounding compound walls of Karangalpady Market were beautified with nice decorative thematic drawings and paintings by Vikram Shetty, Shailesh Kotian & members of Aditattwa team under the guidance of Ramakrishna Mission.

Swacch Ambassador Oath Taking Ceremony

Since last 3 years, The Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru is spearheading a mass-movement “Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan” after a special appeal from the Government of India. In the first 2 phases of the Abhiyan, Ashrama conducted 40 cleanliness drives in and around Mangalore spreading awareness among the masses. Third phase saw the Ashrama successfully completing 500 cleanliness drives in various parts of Mangalore and nearby areas. Ashrama has planned 4 novel initiatives in the current fourth phase. Daily Abhiyan has volunteers from the Ashrama reaching out a minimum of 100 households/shopkeepers a day spreading awareness about hygiene and cleanliness. In Weekly Abhiyan on Sunday mornings, group of volunteers clean a particular area in the city and undertake some basic civil repair work benefiting the common mass. Ashram has also adopted about 100 villages in Mangaluru & Bantwala taluks where cleanliness drives are conducted once in a month.
Swacch Manas Programme is a tender offshoot of the Swacchata Abhiyan catering to about 10000 students. About 100 schools have been selected and training sessions are conducted once in a month in each school targeting 100 selected students in each school. Students are enlightened about the cleanliness, garbage segregation, hygiene and other aspects. Ashram is also designing a workbook to effectively reach out to the students with the message of awareness.

Bhavasangama’18

Ramakrishna Math, Mangalore is organizing Bhavasangama’18 – 3 days’ Residential Devotees’ Convention in the Ashrama from 26th to 28th January. In commemoration of 125 years of Historic address of Swami Vivekananda at the World Parliament of Religions at Chicago, the theme of the programme is chosen as, “Harmony & Acceptance“.

Several monks, speakers will be speaking on different dimensions of harmony in the light of Life & teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sharadadevi & Swami Vivekananda and scriptures. Cultural programmes, Talamaddale, Ashtavadhana, Devotional music will be entertaining and enlightening the participants.

The programme will be inaugurated by Swami Tyaganandaji Maharaj, Head, Vedanta Society, Boston, USA at 10 am on 26th January. Sri Sri Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji, Pontiff of Pejawar Mutt will preside over the valedictory programme at 2.30 pm on 28th January.

Youth Convention

Mangalore Ramakrishna Math is organizing Youth Connection on 13th January in connection with National Youth Day Celebration.  Sri Padmanabha B Acharya, Honorable Governor of Nagaland will be inaugurating the Programme at 9.30 am.  This will be followed by interactive sessions by resource persons.  Details of the programme are given below. Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan – Volunteers’ meet on completion of 100 drives in 3rd phase

Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru took up 400 cleanliness drives in its 3rd phase of Swacch Mangaluru for Swacch Bharath Abhiyan initiated on 2nd October 2016.

It gladdens our heart to share that thanks to the active support & involvement of our volunteers, friends and well-wishers, we have successfully completed 100 drives and are surging ahead with redoubled zeal and vigor. The number of groups volunteering to take up the drive in their respective areas are cropping up day after day and number of volunteers in each group is swelling indicating how the Abhiyan is striking the right chord with the public. We also wish to thank MRPL & Nitte Group of Institutions for their continued support in our endeavours in serving the society.

On this occasion of completion of 100 successful drives, to pledge their commitment towards cleanliness, all 50 teams will be carrying out cleanliness drives in different parts of Mangaluru on Sunday, the 18th December 2016 at 7 am. Details are given overleaf.

This will be followed by a stage programme in our Ashrama for all the volunteers of Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan to take stock of the past 100 drives and to plan our strategy for future programmes.
